a few thoughts

Thanks for 3 great celebrations. Now that the WRIF 36th anniversary parties are over we once again say thank you to the listeners. Last Friday was the Saliva show at the State Theatre. Wayne and Jose were kind enough to play a few acoustic songs for some of our winners at the State Bar before the show.

The next big thing on the horizon for me will be the Sabrina Black Foundation fundraiser/concert/auction coming up in April.

I believe Details and ticket info will be on the air this up coming week.

Now a quick thought about sports….did you notice there was a REAL hockey game last week! I’m not making this up, Ottawa and Buffalo had several fights in a game including a goalie on goalie battle. That is turning into a nice rivalry, it’s almost enough to make me want to start watching hockey again.

I also must pile onto the Dwayne Wade thing. Leaving the floor in a wheelchair with a separated shoulder? That is one of the all-time "Soccer" moments (Soccer is the ultimate whim sport, thus the reference), He should apologize to all the people in the world who actually need a wheelchair. What a big, spoiled, wuss!

Speaking of B-Ball, I’m broadcasting from the Palace today for the Pistons/Bulls game. The return of Ben Wallace. It should be interesting.

Brother Zakk

Zakk Wylde was in town on Tuesday to kick of the WRIF 36-year celebration! Zakk joined Doug Podell live on the air for high-noon, then signed several nice items for us to auction at the next Sabrina Black Foundation fundraiser.
Zakk signed a Gibson Les Paul, his signature crybaby, a few Chop Shop Hall of Fame posters, and a BLS skateboard deck.
Later that night it was Zakk Wylde, a free acoustic show for our Detroit Chapter. After the show Zakk hosted a private dinner with a few lucky WRIF winners.
All in all it was a fantastic night!

Men's Expo

The Men’s expo last Saturday was pretty wild. The best part about the entire event for me was meeting Miss Alaska. She was the most stunning woman there; the fact that she had no hair led us to the conversation I knew too well.
She has been getting chemotherapy for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The current reports are good and she appears to be in the clear. She is excited to keep moving on in her career.
Of all the Playmates and models and bikini contestants, there was only one person all day that I asked to have my photo taken with, and she told me that I was the only one who had asked, and was all smiles.

2/1/2007

7 Years ago today, I woke up in Hawaii. Sabrina and I walked out the back door of our hotel and onto Waikiki Beach at about 8am. We rented 2 Hammocks and spent the next 4 hours or so alternating between lying in the sun and walking in the ocean.

Sometime shortly after noon we went to our room to get ready for our big day. For me that meant a shave and a shower and put on the tuxedo. For the lady, well they need a couple of extra hours…..

It was easy to pass the time I remember because the Michigan/Michigan State basketball game was on. That’s one of the strange things about Hawaii, the 6-hour time difference.
By 4pm, we were dressed and outside in a little tropical garden, with a little waterfall, where we met Reverend Abigail. By 4:30 we were married, and what a wonderful marriage it was. Over the next 6 years, 1 month and 20 days, Sabrina and I enjoyed tons of laughs, mountains of joy, incredible friends and family and the comfort of unconditional love. We also had more than our share of pain, stress and the hardships that come with fighting cancer.

I think of my Sabrina every day, but a little bit more this day. I remember that no matter what we faced, we always knew that as long as we had each other we would be just fine.

Happy anniversary Peanut (I often called her Peanut).

Rest well.
