It looks like Detroit got a pretty good Super Bowl match-up. The Jet City vs. The Steel City in The Motor City!

When I think about Pittsburgh I think, Steel City, hard working, tuff minded people, the amazing Super Bowl teams of the past, Three Rivers, Mario & the Penguins, The only city who’s sports teams ALL were the same colors.

When I think about Seattle I think about the great, and wise Chief Seattle, whom the city was named after, Rainy weather, Jet airplanes, the Space Needle thing, Jimi Hendrix, Queensryche, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Heart, and Nirvana.

I’ve been rooting for the Steelers since I was 6, so I will continue to do so for the big game. I’m just happy we’ve got 2 deserving teams……and the Bus playing at home!

Just thought I’d share some of the National Chop Shop email I’ve been getting:

"Just heard you guys Sunday, January the 8th for the first time. It's about time somebody put together a radio show to highlight specific musician talent. Keep up the good work, this is a great way to rediscover older artists and to discover new ones. Maybe it will also remind some of the youth out there what music is really about too. There's always hope. Thanks" - Bob, Washington DC

"Steve, Thank you and the RIF for your radio show. Your show has been starting my Sunday's for a long time. Keep those ax grinders coming at 45 years it still lights me up and makes me want to crank out my own air guitar. Thanks for workin' on Sunday." - Mike , Detroit

"Caught tonight's show and wanted to drop a quick note to tell you Great job with Vernon Reid -- truly an underrated guitarist -- since hearing VIVID for the first time all those years back, I still go nuts when I hear Vernon's "Cult of Personality" solo -- and the coffee shop was a cool background with all the ambient goings-on! Thanks, man, great show!" – Steve, in Indiana

Chop Shop Classic

With 2006 I have expanded the Chop Shop. I’m now producing 2 versions every week.

The Chop Shop on WRIF will continue as it always has playing guitar rock from the 70s, 80s, 90s and current bands as well. I will continue to give exposure to newer bands like Shinedown, Disturbed and Silvertide and pay our respects to the masters as well.

I’ve also started Chop Shop Classic, which is the same great show, but designed for "classic Rock" stations. The new show features music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Everything from the Yardbirds to Joe Satriani, with a heavy dose of Hendrix, Zeppelin, Clapton and the Stones, mixed in with Dokken, Robin Trower and Motley Crue for spice.

So far the new version is on in Fresno, CA and Iowa City, IA. You can get more details at www.chopshopradio.com and at www.myspace.com/chopshopradio

Thanks, Black out.

tuff year so far

My goal when I started this blog was to have something posted every week. Most of the time I have done 2 posts a week, but life became too demanding since New Year’s Eve.

Sabrina and I were unable to make it to the Motley Crue show, the ambulance decided she would be better served at the nearest hospital, which turned out to be ST. Mary’s in Livonia.

We were visiting some friends when Sabrina had some complications due to her 6 + years battle with cancer. We were in the emergency room for 12 hours before they sent us home. That turned out to be a mistake. They should have transferred her to Karmanos hospital downtown to see her usual team of doctors. As it turned out we had to go to Karmanos a few days later on our own, and they had to hospitalize my sweet wife yet again.

After such a long battle with cancer, chemotherapy on and off for years, radiation on and off for years, the body starts to have lots of problems. Sabrina blood counts are off, her heart has been damaged, her blood pressure is low sometimes and the cancer is still active. And that IS the short list.

The good news is, as of today (1/11/06) Sabrina is home, and holding her own. She is still very sick but still fighting her way through all this.

Also very good news, WRIF is putting together another benefit on February, 16th at the Emerald Theatre in Mt. Clemens. I don’t know all the details yet, but it will be a fun event with a charity auction. I’ll keep you posted as we get closer.

Thanks to everyone at WRIF for helping me make it through the last 11 days. Doug, Art, Anne and Mike Staff especially. Also thanks to Sparky for helping me keep the Chop Shop on schedule through this crazy time.

Black out.
