A creative question this week from Arthur993 in Rigby, Idaho “If you could replace the presidents on all the U.S. bills, which guitarists would you choose?”
Tuff question so I'll need to make up some ground rules. First since it is U.S. money I’ll only choose players born in America. Next to keep with the “founding fathers” tradition, I’ll pick primarily the guys who started it all.
1 dollar bill – Les Paul – where would we be if not for Les Paul and Leo Fender?
5 dollar bill – Leo Fender – see above.
10 dollar bill – Chuck Berry – He was the foundation of everything that happened in the 60s, without chuck there would be no Hendrix, Stones or Beatles.
20 dollar bill – Jimi Hendrix – Possibly still the most innovative and electrifying guitarists of them all.
50 – Muddy Waters – The Rolling Stones took their name from his song “Rollin’ Stone”, his music has been covered by Cream, Hendrix, and even Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" is based upon his hit, "You Need Love”.
100 – B.B. King – One of the most soulful blues players of all-time, he directly impacted the playing of Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Gary Moore and hundreds of thousands more
And let’s put Frank Zappa on the 2 dollar bill, he was so under the radar and odd that he’s perfect for the 2 dollar bill.
